Analytical Overview of Asset Performance in 2025

The performance of financial assets in 2025 reflects significant structural shifts in global markets. South Korea’s KOSPI index clearly outperformed most global equity indices, benefiting from strong momentum in both the technology and industrial sectors.

In the United States, the Nasdaq 100 outperformed other major equity indices, driven primarily by technology stocks linked to artificial intelligence. Alphabet stood out as the best-performing stock among the major technology companies, highlighting the strength of its business model and its direct exposure to the rapid expansion of AI applications.

Across GCC markets, the Muscat Index in Oman delivered a notably strong performance compared with regional peers, supported by improving economic fundamentals and investment inflows. In the US bond market, the sharpest decline occurred in short-term Treasuries—particularly the 2-year maturity—indicating market expectations of future monetary easing. Meanwhile, the 30-year Treasury was the only maturity to post a slight gain, reflecting longer-term fiscal concerns and rising debt levels.

In commodity markets, silver significantly outperformed other precious metals, supported by both industrial and investment demand. Brent crude oil recorded its weakest annual performance since 2020, weighed down by supply surpluses and weaker global demand.

In foreign exchange markets, the Swedish krona emerged as the best-performing G10 currency, benefiting from domestic economic strength and monetary policy expectations. In contrast, cryptocurrencies underperformed, with most digital assets recording notable losses amid declining risk appetite and a rotation of liquidity back toward traditional assets.
